Could we one day see a wind farm in the Channel Isles?
There’s been lots of talk over the years of there potentially being wind farms installed across the Channel Islands, and the benefits this could bring to electricity costs and availability.
While conversations about this continue, it was just announced last week that a new 950MW wind farm has been given permission to be installed off the coast of Aberdeen (22km out to sea). It will generate power at £57.50/MWh – less than half the price of power generated by offshore wind farms under construction today. It is scheduled to be operational in 2021.
This is sure to be a project for the Channel Islands to look towards for inspiration and feasibility while all options are considered locally.
